Great Art depth of feeling

About the Artist

Samina Sachak is a self-taught Tanzanian artist, residing in a quiet coastal town of Tanga, where she finds the peace and inspiration to paint.

Samina’s art journey began in the late 1980s when feminist art movement began to emerge in Africa as a way to influence cultural attitudes and transform stereotypes. In those days she had a basic 9-5 job as an accountant at a local Dispensary.

Her talent was explored when a Doctor working at the same Dispensary took notice of Samina’s love for art and gave her a painting board and some brushes.

Samina’s first painting was a landscape that had a forest set amidst a lake and from there on, she took to pursue art as a self-taught artist.

“The interest developed after I completed my first painting. I realized that art gave me a new meaning to life, it inspired me and gave me a sense of accomplishment. It was just being me.” Says Samina

Samina believes her late mother was an influential person in her career as she grew up seeing her do all sorts of hand work pieces of art, from home items to clothes.
